Hey Your Line Is Showing

Tis the season Ladies… The season when many, and I do mean MANY of you, show your lines!!!!  UGH!!  For the love of Max Factor you’re killing me!!!!  Can we please have a side bar about foundation?!?!  No seriously…. Get you butt over here!

Color-Matching-Bad
Here’s the deal, I love you BUT friends don’t let other friends show their foundation lines.

Spring has finally sprung, and we are starting to venture outside again and our pasty white skin has begun to get color.  Or If you are like me, you have busted out your self tanner and have begun lathering your body from head to toe.  Either way your face has entered into that awkward transitional phase, of where you’re not exactly lily-white but, you’re not that golden bronze beach goddess either,  and there in lies the dilemma…  Because you still continue to use your winter color foundation…. WHY?

For those of you right now that are saying to yourself, I use the same foundation twelve months out of the year. We need to have a more serious conversation later.

Ladies I understand, it’s hard to justify buying an entire bottle of foundation for a color that you will only need one, maybe four months out of the year. Yes remember we have the fall too 🙂 But PLEASE either break down and buy the drug store foundation that will get you by, or blend blend blend AND, don’t forget about your bronzer.

Deep breath… Coming down from my rant…. Okay Let’s chat tips and tricks to help our foundation during this time:

1. The EASIEST solution is the obvious, buy a freaking bottle of foundation that matches. It doesn’t have to be expensive, just get one that matches.

*** REMEMBER***   Ladies when you go to buy foundation,  you want to match the color of  the foundation with the color of your neck. This is One of the most important tips I can give you. COLOR MATCH TO YOUR NECK,  NOT FACE.  But why you ask? I have always been told to match to my face. Well I’m here to tell you that they lied. Let’s use me for example, I have very dry skin so I exfoliate my skin often and therefore, my face is usually a lot lighter than my neck. If I were to color match to my face then, when I apply the foundation it will still be a different color than my neck. But if I match to the color of my neck, then when I apply the foundation, I will not have an EVIL line and my face and neck will look seamless.  Stop it Right now, it’s that easy you say!!!!  Yes MATCH TO YOUR NECK!!! Say it with me…. I will match my foundation to my neck.

Not a Win

2. If you absolutely refuse to buy another foundation color, then run the foundation down your neck to your clavicle so there will not be a break from your face to your neck.  Remember SEAMLESS!!!

3.  If you suffer from white face and dark neck, aka two-tone  like I do, then run a little bronzer down your neck so you are blending the two colors together.

4. Last but not least BLEND BLEND BLEND your foundation into your skin.  This is where technique is extrememly important in the application, by blending the foundation into your skin, it will provide a gradual transition from your face to your neck.   See my post on Sponge Yo Face for technique here.

There’s really no excuse for me to see your line, However…..

Because we are friends I thought I would share, proof that I recently had fallen victim to the two-tone face/neck.  I was trying to snap a pic, of my new lippie (which you can read about in my post  Lip… Lip… Lippies )  when I realized I was not rocking the seamless look.

Lip… Lip… Lippies!!!!

So I have totally been on a drugstore makeup kick lately and let me tell you, I have discovered a whole new world!!!! I have found some amazing products  and, I can’t wait to share them all with you! I promise I will be reviewing them all soon. But what we need to chat about today is my NEW obsession, Revlon Colorburst Balms.  OMG I am completely obsessed!!!! Dead serious I think I am going to have to 12 step it off these crayons.  Do you think Makeup Junkie anonymous even exist….???  I’m digressing…

A few weeks ago I strolled into my local CVS Store bound and determined to re-discover over the counter makeup.  There has to be a world outside of high end makeup right…?  And hell yes there was especially, when it comes to Revlon lippies!  Side note  “lippy” is the new trend word for any lip product.  Just thought you should know…

If a lipstick, gloss and chapstick all met up and had a drunken night together Revlon Colorbust Balm would be their love child.  I could go into the ingredients but, I think you get the point…  We should also mention, that I think it’s the most amazing thing in the world that they are large crayons.  There is just something about the idea of having a crap ton of crayons in my purse to paint my lips with.  It just makes me so freaking happy 🙂

The Colorbust line consists of three collections: Lacquer, Matte and Stain.

Colorburst Lacquer which consists of ten shades shown below, is marketed as a high shine lip balm with a lacquer finish, umm what???  What Revlon is trying to say, is that the lacquer finish is aka for a glossy finish. Which I would agree with on the initial application, however after wearing it for a while it does dull to more of a velvet finish but, you won’t hear any complaints for me.  I didn’t mind it at all.  I also found that I only had to re-apply twice during the day which equals FANTASTIC staying power and was the beginning of my addiction

Colors not in order; Demure, Coquette, Vivacious, flirtatious, Ingenue, Coy, Provocateur, Whimsical, Tease and Enticing

For my makeup scholars, yes they are a knockoff of the Clinique’s Chubby Stick, which is a great lippy however, Clinique’s price point is around $17 per stick and Revlon’s Colorburst comes in at around $9.  Ummm hello for an $8 dollar saving, I was willing to try the Revlon version AND CVS was having a buy one get one 50% off Sale. Seriously need I say more?!?! I controlled my urge to buy the entire line and just bought #115 Whimsical and #125 Flirtatious from the Lacquer line. I wore #115, Whimsical the next day and I was in lippy love. The crayon goes on smoothly just like a lipstick and surprising they were super moisturizing! I mean really moisturizing and the freaking color stayed on. I thought it was way too good to be true, so I wore #125,  Flirtatious the following day with the same result.
That’s when I realized I had pure gold on my hands and went back to CVS, now two days later, and bought the entire lacquer and matte collection and no I’m not ashamed to say it.  These crayons Rock My Socks!!!!

The Colorburst Matte Collection claims to have a Hydrating Velvety matte finish and contains nine shades, featured below in collection.  I found them all to have the same lipstick feel when applying, and also hydrating like chapstick, not as much as the lacquer but, more than what you would expect from a matte finish. They are definitely keepers.

Colors not in order; Showy, Unapologetic, Audacious, Standout, Complex, Elusive, shameless, Mischievous & Striking

Revlon Colorburst Matte
Now I am briefly going to touch on the stains here… The reason why, is that I’m not a big fan of lip stains. They just don’t do it for me.  I have extremely dry skin and, have always found stains to be very drying and they always crack and cake up on my lips.  The Revlon crayons were no exception, they were a bit moisterizing however, after a short time they caked up on me, sigh… as all stains tend to do.  I really didn’t have high hopes using the stains.  I find that lip stains and dry skin simply don’t go together.  However, if you know of a stain that is worthy of trying please leave me the name in the comments box, I would love to find one.

There are ten colors in this collection, not all are shown below and, the colors are in no particular order; Honey, Crush, Cherish, Lovesick, Smitten, Sweetheart, Charm, Rendezvous,  Romantic and Adore.

Now that I have told you how fantastic these little gems are, let me mention my two issues with them.  Don’t freak out they aren’t the end of the world. These crayons twist at the bottom and therefore, you can’t attach the cap to the bottom when you take it off.  Like I said not the end of the world just SUPER annoying.  My second issue is that if you take a look at all the colors in each line you will notice that they are pretty much the same shade just in the different formulas (lacquer, matte, stain) however, once applied they do swatch a bit differently.  See my example below.

Showy is the stain and Whimsical is the lacquer.  Close huh?

Bottom line choose the finish you want lacquer, matte or stain and, then I say buy the colors you want in that collection, hell buy that collection.  Don’t waste your money on buying the entire line however, like some other people I know, because you will get the same colors with each collection.  And definitely don’t waste your money on high end lipstick this summer, these lippies will have everything you need.

Stats:

Application – Take the cap off your crayon and color those lips baby!!!!

Cost: $9 Smackers

Where to buy: Any drugstore, ULTA, Revlon.com

I would Love to Know how you take your Libbies?

Scrub-A-Dub-Dub that Miracle Sponge

Okay it’s been 72 hours since my first post and,  I am assuming that all of you have ran out and purchased the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge, if not then seriously… What are you waiting for?  You are going to have to keep up with the class.

Now  for those of you who have this AMAZING sponge, by the way You’re Welcome, it’s time to make sure that thing stays clean. What you have clean it?   Ummm yes……  People though it is a miracle and the best thing ever, it’s still a dang SPONGE!

I recommend you clean it at least once a week and, the best way is with this nifty little product, Solid by Beauty Blender.   OMG Jessie!  you just told us,  in your last blog, that we didn’t want the Beauty Blender.  I know but, that was the sponge, as far as cleaner goes Beauty Blender has it hook line and sinker.  Remember we have to give credit where credit is due.

The Solid’s purpose, is actually for cleaning your beauty sponges and makeup brushes on the road.  But I am here to say that it is not just for travel my friends, and it’s definitely not just for sponges.  This little Solid wonder not only cleans the sponge, pretty dang well but, it kicks butt on all my makeup brushes.  No Joke!!!

Now I love me some MAC Makeup but, where I live I have to travel into the city to go to a MAC counter and sometimes, well crap most of the time, I just can’t seem to make it that far….   I would get so stressed out when I started running low on my MAC Brush Cleaner because, I knew I was going to have to get my butt into the City and, well if I’m going to go to MAC I might as well go to MAC Pro, in the mall and well… Then that is and expensive City trip.

But then I found the little Solid that could, at the Sephora in my town :).

Now I feel I should mention here, for some of my more experienced makeup peeps, that I still use MAC Brush Cleaner if I need to clean my brush and, then use it right after.  However, if you are rookie to the makeup world or just don’t want a lot of crap, then the Solid is all you need.

I like to think of the Solid as a bar of soap in a soap dish.  When using this on a brush, you would just get the the hair portion of the brush wet and then swirl it against the solid aka soap.  Then agitate the brush against a clean surface,  I usually wash my hands and use the palm of my hand to sud it up then rinse the product out and Done!  Seriously so easy….

Stats:

Sponge Application:  Get the entire sponge wet and swirl the sponge against the solid to pick up the product.  Then sud it up under water and begin squeezing out all the foundation. Repeat until the water runs clear when you squeeze the sponge out and let it dry over night.

Cost:  $15.95 a tad pricey but well worth it.

Where to Buy:  There is a JCPenney that has a Sephora in it, close to my house and, I buy mine there.  However, Ulta does not carry the Beauty Blender line so don’t go there.

Sponge Yo Face

Okay let’s jump right into it shall we…  Raise you’re hand if you are still applying you foundation with your hand or brush?  Okay Ladies, I going to need you to cease and desist immediately!!! YES IMMEDIATELY!!!

May I introduce to you the Miracle Complexion Sponge by Real Techniques!

Image

This $6.00 Wonder is a stroke of Genius!  In the spirit of full disclosure this sponge is a copy cat of the very over priced Beauty Blender sponge.

Image

However Real Techniques (RT) version, accomplished the very difficult task of improving product from the original.  The Miracle Complexion Sponge not only kicks the Beauty Blenders Ass but, it’s WAY cheaper.  Beauty Blend sells for $20 which is stupid and RT’s sponge sells for $6.  Six Freaking Dollars ladies. Seriously this should be the end of the conversation…..

Okay application…. Listen if your current foundation application is working for you then great.  Stop reading now… However if you want a very natural and airbrush look to your face then, keep reading baby!!

Not only is a good foundation a key essential to makeup (which I have tones of opinions on) but, the way you are applying it, is also key.  If you are using your hand then you are dumb.  Yes I said dumb.  Why would you touch your face with your hands?  Do you know where they have been?  Also your hands end up absorbing about as much product as your face!  And guarantee you are using way too much.  For my brush peeps out there. Yes brushes are great!  I was using one up until a month ago however, no matter how hard you try you still get strokes and for my rookie makeup peeps you can still over use.

The RT Miracle Complexion Sponge corrects all that.  It not only blends but it does the blending for you.  So now all of my two toned ladies with dark faces and white necks have a fighting chance in the blending world.  You want to use the flat and arched side to blend the your foundation in, the sides of the flat surface are perfect for getting around the nose and lips. Then use the pointy end to do your concealer.  It’s a one stop shop!!!

Listen I can go on and on for days about this amazing sponge but, how about you live on the edge and go buy it. IT’S $6 FREAKING DOLLARS!!!  And then you can thank me afterwards.  You now know where to find me.

Stats:

Application – Get the entire sponge wet then squeeze out all the water.  Place some foundation on the back of your hand and take the flat surface of the sponge and dip it into the foundation.  Then begin patting away.  PATTING I SAY!!!  Do not Rub!!!

Cost:  If you haven’t been following along $6 dollars

Where to buy:  I have only  been able to find it at Ulta however I know the Real Techniques line is sold at Walmart and Khol’s. I have also provided the RT website.
